Summer reading from the author of The Impressionist and My Revolutions...
Hari Kunzru
What's currently on your bedside table?
I didn't know the poetry of Frank O'Hara until I came to live in New York. Lunch Poems is the perfect companion to Manhattan. His urbane, disabused romantic voice has taught me a lot about the city.
What would you recommend this summer?
If you're the kind of person who likes to dive into a book and live inside it, I'd be tempted by the new translation of War and Peace (the Pevear and Volkhonsky translation). If you want something light and fun, I've always thought The Great Gatsby is one of the great summer novels - all the partygoers flitting across blue gardens like moths ...
What are you taking on holiday?
William Gaddis's The Recognitions. A book that's been sitting on my shelf staring at me for a while now.
