"Reading a poem, first thing in the morning, is as good breathing for me."

Sara Shilo

What's currently on your bedside table?

The Butterfly Crosses the Road is the Hebrew title of the book of poems by Eeva Kilpi, a Finnish poet. Her poetry describes the human pain with no discounts, but the poems are full of wisdom and self-humor. Reading a poem, first thing in the morning, is as good breathing for me.

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
This is the first book of Toni Morrison, her writing greatly affected the way I chose to write my first novel. More than anything else the book is written with courage and integrity, two qualities that I really appreciate, especially when you write about your community that is not the strongest group in society.

Which book/s would your recommend right now?

History by Elsa Morante is a book I go back and read once in a while. It has a rare opportunity to experience the great history, macro of human conduct with the smallest details of existence and a deep connection between these two dimensions. So you can read on one page, what happened in Europe and around the world during World War II, and in the following page find a description of a shelter with a cat sits on one of the people who hide in it, and through the most subtle gestures of this cat, how it was trying to express it`s ownership of him.

Which book/s are you taking with you on your next journey?

Moral Disorder by Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood's book has a good mix of rational and emotional. And, she writes female characters (girls and women) in a way that brings their real strength to the surface without making them manly.
